The Birth of a Restaurant

Originally from Italy, Franco and Carmela Liberta built their lives in New York before moving to Clovis for the health of their children. With a deep-rooted family history in delis and pizzerias, they carried with them a dream — to open their own Italian restaurant.

In 1969, despite skeptics saying they’d never make it, Franco and Carmela took a leap of faith. With no employees, borrowed money for groceries, and an unshakable belief in their craft, they opened Luna Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant in downtown Clovis.

Growing with the Community

What began as a small family restaurant soon grew into a beloved local landmark. With the help of their three children, the Libertas expanded Luna’s by purchasing the building next door — adding a new dining area and a banquet room for family celebrations, birthdays, and community gatherings.

Through the years, Luna’s became more than just a restaurant — it became a place where friends met, families reunited, and traditions were passed from one generation to the next.

Though Franco and Carmela have since passed, their legacy lives on. Luna’s remains locally owned and proudly committed to the same standards of quality, flavor, and hospitality that started it all.

Here, you’ll still find our signature recipes made from scratch — from the bread and pizza dough baked fresh daily, to our handcrafted sauces, soups, meatballs, calzones, and lasagna. Every dish is a piece of our history, served with love and care.
